Café Stops
Below is a list of local café’s used by members of Boxford Bike Club. Links are provided to check opening times, food and drink choices etc. It is our aim to add good café’s visited by members so if you have a favourite café please let us know via our contact page and we will add them to the list. Please add notes for cyclists.
Café Como
Café Como is situated on the Monks Eleigh to Lavenham Road and serves range of light snacks and drinks.
Cycling Notes:- There is ample space to leave cycles in a quiet location.
Clare Station Cafe
Situated in Clare Country Park and housed in the old station buildings the café offers a range of light snacks and hot meals.
Cycling Notes :- With plenty of space in the park to sit and relax your bike can stay with you throughout. If eating inside then a cycle lock would be advisable.
Cobblers
Cobblers Wine Bar is based in Hadleigh High Street and serves a wide range of meals, light snacks and drinks.
Cycling Notes:- There is ample space to leave bikes at the rear of the café in supplied Cycle Racks which are visible from the garden area. If you are planning to take refreshment inside the café a cycle lock would be advisable.
Coffee House Brantham
Situated beside the River Stour in Brantham the Coffee House serves a wide range of light snacks and more substantial meals.
Cycling Notes:- There is ample space for bike storage at the entrance to the cafe buit this is not visible form inside so a cycle lock is advisable.
Dedham Boat House Cafe
The café situated next to the River Stour serves a range of snacks and drinks which can be enjoyed sitting beside the beautiful River Stour on the Suffolk/Essex border.
Cycling Notes:- Outside seating is provided adjacent to the café so your bike can stay with you the whole time.
Felixstowe Ferry
Located in a beautiful location at Felixstowe Ferry a lovely place to relax whilst enjoying a light snack or more substantial meal. It is also the place to catch the small ferry across the Deben to Bawdsey, bikes welcome.
Cycling Notes:- There are plenty of places to leave a bike although there are no specific cycle racks. A lock may be advisable.
Flatford Mill Tearoom
Flatford Mill Tearoom is situated on the banks of the River Stour in the small village of Flatford. Run by the National Trust it serves a range of meals, light snacks and drinks. You can enjoy a relaxing break whilst taking in the sights made famous by John Constable in his picture The Haywain.
Cycling Notes:- Whilst there is an area to leave cycles it is not easily viewable from the café itself so consider using a lock.
Ha’Penny Pier Cafe Harwich
The Café is situated on the old Ha’Penny Pier itself and serves a range of light snacks and meals. There is substantial outside seating with views across the estuary to the port of Felixstowe.
Cycling Notes:- There is no allocated cycle storage area but as most of the seating is outside bikes can be leant against the railings and are viewable at all times. If you are planning to sit in the small café itself a lock would be advisable.
THE NOOK READERS CAFE LAVENHAM
There are outside tables and cyclists are very welcome. It also boast a small bookshop.
Cycling Notes:- Whilst there are no specific cycle storage areas outside seating means you can stay with your bike at all times. Also visible from tables at the front of the café.
LanDguard Visitor Centre Cafe
The café is situated at the end of the Landguard Point road and serves a wide range of meals, snacks and drinks. It is the stopping off point for the Felixstowe/Harwich ferry which welcomes bikes on the crossing.
Cycling Notes:- Whilst there are no cycle storage racks there are plenty of places to park your bike. If eating inside a lock would be advisable.
Maglia Rosso
Maglia Rosso combines a café with a bike shop selling a wide range of bikes, clothing, accessories and parts. It’s café serves a range of light snacks and drinks. It is situated on the Lawshall Road just south of Bury St Edmunds.
Cycling Notes:- Designed for cyclists there is ample parking for bikes which are visible from the café itself.
Situated in Sudbury Painters serves a range of meals, snacks and drinks in a pleasant indoor environment. There is no outside seating.
Cycling Notes:- There is very limited bike parking on the pavement in front of the café but the owner will allow bikes to be taken around the rear of the café for safe storage. A lock is advisable.
The Shipwreck Shotley
The Shipwreck is a Pub located in the Shotley Marina. Offering a wide range of full meals, snacks and drinks it is a lovely place to spend a lazy hour watching the activity around you. It is also a stopping point for the Harwich/Felixstowe ferry.
Cycling Notes:- There is ample seating outside so you can stay with your bike. If the weather is less than perfect and eating inside then a lock would be advisable.
Tarka’s Cafe
Tarka’s café at Baythorne Hall on the banks of the Stour offer a range of snacks and more substantial meals.
Cycling Notes:- There are no specific facilities for the storage of cycles but their are many places where they can be safely left. If eating inside it would be advisable to use a padlock.
RIVERSIDE CAFE ORFORD
This café is situated at Orford Quay and enjoys stunning views of Orford Ness an old military site from both the first and second world wars. Now a National Trust site it can be visited by booking through their website The café itself offers a wide range of snacks and meals.
Cycling Notes:- There are no specific areas for storage of cycles but if sitting outside cycles can be left in view. If the weather is inclement and you are eating inside then a cycle lock may be desirable.
Recently opened the White Hart in Boxford has re-opened as both a pub and community hub. They offer a range of cakes and light refreshments and is an ideal stop after the weekly ride.
Cycling Notes:- There are outside tables and ample parking for bikes. If you plan to stay inside it would be advisable to have a lock for your bike.
